Engineering Flashcards
What is newtons first law
Object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by another force (inertia)
What is newtons second law
F=MA
What is newtons third law
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction

What is a simple machine
A machine is anything that modulates the amount of work or the direction of the force being applied. A simple machines is one of the 6 most basic forms of machines.
Work Formula
W=F*s(displacement)
How do pulleys make work easier
- Directional
- Mechanical advantage
Give examples of simple machines in real life
See saw
ramp
axe
scissors
What is the Velocity Ratio Formula (Ideal MA)
VR=SE / SL
SE=Distance Moved by effort
SL= DIstance moved by load
Mechanical Advantage formula
MA= FL/FE
FL= Force Load
FE= Force Effort
Efficiency Formula
n=MA/VR
MA=Mechanical advantage
VR= Velocity Ratio
Ideal Mechanical advantage
IMA=LI/LO
LI=Length in
LO= Length out
How is nuclear power generated and transformed into energy
Uranium control rods are submerged into water, the steam produced spins a turbine with multiple fans and blades. This spins the turbine creating electricity.
How is electricity distributed from the plant to the suburbs.
After the electricity leaves the power plant, it enters a step up increasing the voltage. The cables are then ran across long distance at high speeds. It then reaches a suburb and enters a step down. This decreases the voltage so it is suited to go to houses.
