Engine Flashcards
What is the thrust reverser system’s actuation method?
Hydraulically actuated
The thrust reverser system is controlled from the cockpit via the thrust levers.
What type of engine is the Pratt and Whitney PW1900G?
Axial-flow twin spool turbofan with a high-bypass ratio
It features a low speed gear-driven fan.
What is the purpose of the fan drive gear system?
Allows the engine fan to operate at slower speeds than the low-pressure compressor and turbine
This increases bypass ratio, resulting in lower fuel consumption, emissions, and noise.
What does the Dual-channel FADEC architecture control?
Engine protection, control of requested and maximum N1, control of ATTCS
FADEC stands for Full Authority Digital Engine Control.
What does the MAX setting on the thrust lever do?
Sets the maximum thrust available for dual or single engine operation
What happens when the thrust lever is pulled against a spring?
Reaches the MAX REV position for maximum reverse thrust
What does the IGNITION selector knob’s AUTO position do?
FADEC automatically controls the ignition system
What does an amber boxed FAIL indication signify?
An engine has flamed out or shut down without pilot action
What does a green tick-mark on the N1 dial indicate?
The maximum allowable N1 (maximum thrust) for the current thrust rating and operating conditions
What is indicated by a red FIRE warning on the ITT dial?
An engine fire condition
What does the Fuel Distribution System consist of?
- Integrated Fuel Pump and Control (IFPC)
- Fuel/Oil Manifold (FOM)
- Fuel/Oil Heat Exchanger (FOHX)
These components work together to ensure proper fuel flow and management.
What is the main function of the engine oil system?
Lubricate engine bearings, gears, shafts, and splines; provides thermal management
What does the Air Turbine Starter (ATS) do?
Rotates the rotor speed to start the engine using bleed air
What happens when the FADEC detects a surge during engine start?
Commands a fuel depulse, cycling fuel off for 2 seconds and back on for 12 seconds
What is the function of the thrust reverser system after an engine failure?
The thrust reverser is blocked and cannot be deployed
What does the FADEC De-power Function do?
Turns the FADECs OFF on the ground, 5 minutes after engine shutdown
What does the ATTCS indicate when armed and engaged?
- ATTCS in white: system is armed
- ATTCS in green: system is engaged
What is flexible takeoff thrust based on?
Assumed temperature; must be higher than TO TEMP
What does the GA mode stand for?
Go-Around Thrust Mode
What is the function of the maximum continuous thrust?
Used in emergency situations where higher thrust than usual is required
What is the FADEC protection against hot start?
Commands fuel depulse, auto-restart, or start abort
What happens if N1 or N2 reaches 105%?
FADEC automatically commands an engine shutdown
What does the FADEC do in the event of shaft shear detection?
Automatically commands an engine shutdown
