It is the main idea or main point of a text. It serves as a roadmap of the text you are reading.
Thesis
clearly identifies the topic being discussed, includes the points discussed in the paper, and is written for a specific audience.

Elements of a Thesis Statement:
- Topic
- Argument/Claim
- Evidence
directly states the writer’s main idea/position and provides a clear direction for the essay leaving no room for confusion or doubt.
Explicit Thesis
not directly stated, but rather suggested through the writer’s ideas and supporting points.
Implicit Thesis
provides a brief “frame” or overview of ideas in a text. They show the relationships among those ideas, as similar ideas are on similar levels.
Outline
It shows how the parts of a text are related to one another.

Guidelines in Writing an Outline:
- Place the title at the center above the outline.
- Every level of the outline must have at least two items.
- Put a period after each numeral and letter.
- Indent each new level of the outline.
- All items of one kind should line up with each other.
- Capitalize the first letter of each item.
- The terms Introduction, Body, and Conclusion do not have to be included in the outline.
