What do energy transfer diagrams show?
Each type of energy, whether it is stored or not, and the process taking place as the energy is transferred. They also only show useful energy transfers.
What do Sankey diagrams show?
All the energy transfer taking place in a process. The thicker the line or arrow, the more energy being transferred.
How can energy be transferred?
Usefully, stored or dissipated. It cannot be created or destroyed.
What is the efficiency of a device?
The proportion of energy supplied that is transferred in useful ways.
How can you calculate the efficiency of a device?
efficiency = useful energy out ÷ total energy in (for a decimal efficiency)
efficiency = (useful energy out ÷ total energy in) × 100 (for a percentage efficiency)
What is the equation to calculate the energy transferred?
E = P × t
E is the energy transferred in kilowatt-hours, kWh
P is the power in kilowatts, kW
T is the time in hours, h.
