Energy Systems & Acute Response Flashcards
Heart Rate definition
The amount of time the heart beats per minute
Stroke Volume definition
The amount of blood (mL) pumped from the left ventricle per beat
Cardiac Output definition
SV x HR
Amount of blood pumped from the left ventricle per minute
Tidal Volume definition
Amount of inspired and expired air per breath
Respiratory Rate definition
Amount of breaths per minute
Ventilation definition
TV x RR
Air breathed in and out per minute
VO2 Max
Maximum amount of oxygen you can take up, transport and utilise
Factors affecting VO2 Max
Age, gender & body size
Benefits of higher VO2 max
Allows you to work at a higher intensity, for a longer period of time, AEROBICALLY
Disadvantage of lower VO2 max
Fatigue quicker due to lactic acid build up with greater contribution from AG system than someone with a higher VO2 max.
Acute response definition
Immediate, short term changes to the body that last for the duration of the exercise/training session and for a short period post session
Acute respiratory responses (5)
Increased respiratory rate Increased Tidal Volume Increased ventilation Increased diffusion Increased VO2 uptake
Acute cardiovascular responses (6)
Increased heart rate Increased stroke volume Increased cardiac output Increased systolic blood pressure Increased redistribution Decreased blood plasma volume
Acute muscular responses (8)
Increased a-VO2 difference
Increased
