Energy Systems Flashcards
ATP-CP System
Provides immediate energy for short bursts of intense activity
Anaerobic Glycolosis System
Supplies energy for high-intensity activities lasting up to 30-75 secs
Aerobic System
Produces energy for sustained, lower-intensity activities. Lasts from 90secs and longer
Energy System Overview
ATP-CP: Maximal Intensity, Duration= 0-20s, rate = very high, yield = very low
Anaerobic: Very High Intensity, Duration = 30-75s, rate = high, yield = low
Aerobic: SUb-Maximal Intensity, Duration = 90s+, Rate = very low, Yield = very high
Oxygen Deficit
occurs when oxygen supply lags behind oxygen demands – typically at the start of exercise and when exercise intensities rapidly increase (mainly anaerobic energy systems).
Oxygen Debt
also known as EPOC (Excess Post – exercise Oxygen Consumption) occurs during recovery whilst oxygen levels remain above resting (largely aerobic energy system).
Steady State
occurs when oxygen supply meets oxygen demand (largely aerobic energy system).
