Q

explain the Krebs cycle:

A

-Acetyle co enzyme A + oxoloeaetic acid=citric acid.
- this process resynthesises 2 ATP.
- the citric acid then further gives of carbon and hydrogen.
- carbon forms carbon dioxide and is enhance out of the body.
-The hydrogen moves into the electron transport chain.

Q

explain the electron transport chain:

A

-Now, in the cristae of the mitochondira, hydrogen is split into hydrogen and electron ions.
- the hydrogen oxidies to produce water.
- the electron ions produce the energy to form 34 ATP molecules.
therefore there is 36 ATP in total.

Q

what is glycolysis?

A

When no oxygen is present, it gets converted into pyruvic acid into acetyl co-enzyme a.This then diffuses from the sarcoplasm into the matrix of the mitochondira.

Q

Explain the ATP-PC system:

A

ther eis phosphocreatine in sarcoplasm, when atp levels fall the enzyme creatine kinase is released.
this breask down into phosphate and creatine and energy. The energy it produces is used to join the molecule to ADP to create ATP. (coupled reaction)

Q

3 ways lactic acid is removed from the slow component:

A

converted to glucose and glycogen, converted to protein, used by muscles as an energy store.
