Energy Supply 4.2 Flashcards
What is ATP made from?
Adenine, ribose sugar, 2 phosphate molecules and an inorganic phosphate
What catalyses ADP and Pi to ATP?
ATP synthase
What catalyses ATP to ADP and Pi
ATPase
Define metabolic pathways?
A series of small reactions controlled by enzymes
Define phosphorylation…
Adding phosphate to a molecule
Define photophosphorylation
Adding phosphate to a molecule using light
Define photolysis
The splitting of a molecule using light
Define hydrolysis….
The splitting of a molecule using water
What is a coenzyme?
A molecule that AIDS the function of an enzyme, by transferring a chemical group from one molecule to another.
E.g. NADP, NAD, FAD
What is a photosystem made out of?
Pigment (chlorophyll A,B and carotene) + protein
What is the Light dependent reaction?
Takes place in thylakoid membranes
Light absorbed by photosynthetic pigment
Light energy used to make ATP from ADP and Pi. Also NADPH is made
What is the light independent reaction?
Calvin cycle
Takes place in stroma
ATP and NADPH used (from light dependent) to make glucose from CO2
Equation for photosynthesis…
6CO2 + 6H2O + energy —> C6H12O6 + 6O2
