How does a nuclear power station work?

A

Nuclear fission of uranium or plutonium produces heat. This turns water to steam and this turns a turbine, which turns a generator.

Advantages and disadvantages of using wind power?

A

Pros: Doesn’t cause pollution. No fuel costs. Minimal running costs. No permanent damage to landscape.

Cons: Noisy. Wind is variable. High initial costs.

What are the advantages and disadvantages associated with hydroelectric power?

A

Pros: Produces an immediate response to an increased demand for electricity. Reliable source of energy. No fuel or running costs. Good at providing energy on a small scale in remote areas.

Cons: High initial costs. Flooding the valley leaves rotting vegetables and releases methane and CO2. Possible loss of habitat. Looks very ugly when dried up.
