Energy Revision Flashcards
to not be dumb
What causes things to feel warmer or cooler. Refer to the transfer of heat.
- Kinetic energy
- Thermal Energy
Convection, conduction and radiation
How does sound travel?
In sound waves in vibrations through mediums
What is a longitudinal wave?
Moves in a parallel motion
Parts of the ear
Semi-Circular Canal Eustachian Tube Oval window Pinna Ear Drum
What does the semi-circular canal do?
Help keep your balance
What does the Ear Eustachian Tube do?
Controls the pressure within the ear and making the air pressure the same from outside the body. Connects the middle ear to the nasopharynx.
What does the Oval window do?
An opening that leads from the middle ear to the inner ear and vibrations travel through the ossicles and into the inner ear.
What does the Pinna do?
Acts as a funnel directing the sound into the ear.
What does the Ear Drum do?
When sound reaches the eardrum it vibrates and sends the vibrates to the inner ear.
Parts of the eye
Cornea Iris Lens Retina Optical Nerve
What does the cornea do?
Eyes outermost lens
What does the Iris do?
Responsible for controlling the diameter and size of the pupil.
What does the Lens do?
Focuses the light rays that pass through it by changing its shape.
What does the retina do?
Responsible for converting light into neural signals and sends it to the brain for visual recognition
What does the optical nerve do?
To transfer visual information from the retina to the centres of the brain.
How does Concave lens bend light?
The reflected light diverges
How does Convex lens bend light?
The reflected light is converged
What happens to light as it moves through different mediums
When light passes through less or more dense mediums the light can bended and this is called refraction.
What is Conduction?
Direct contact, kinetic and thermal energy is transferred from one object to another
What is Convection?
Transferred by the movement of a liquid of different temperatures
What is Radiation?
The transmission of energy moved in the form of waves through a medium or material.
Examples of conduction
Cooking pizza
On the stove cooking pasta
Examples of Convection
Boiling water
A steaming cup of hot tea
Lava lamp
Examples of Radiation
The heat from a stove
Light from the sun
Microwave oven
What is short-sighted?
Distant objects to appear blurred
What is long-sighted
Close objects to appear blurred
How can short-sighted be fixed
Concave Glasses
How can long-sighted be fixed
Convex glasses
What happens when a pen is put into the glass of water?
Bend inwards
