Energy Resources Part 2- Year 9 Flashcards
What is the National Grid System?
A system of transmission cables and transformers
What does the National Grid System do?
They transfer electrical power from the power station to where it is needed
What is the purpose of step-up transformers?
Increase the voltage as electricity flows through
What is the purpose of a step-down transformer?
Decrease the potential difference to make it safe
How is electricity transferred?
Via a low current, but a high voltage so less energy is lost
What is the equation for energy transferred (joules)?
Power x Time
Watts Seconds
What is the equation for energy transferred (kilowatt-hours)
Power x Time
Kilowatt Hours
What is the equation for cost?
Energy transferred x Price per kWh
What is current measured in?
Amps (A)
What is potential difference measured in?
Volts (V)
What is resistance measured in?
Ohms (Ω)
