Energy Resources Part 1- Year 9 Flashcards
What is Non-Renewable, and what are some examples?
Examples: coal, oil, gas and nuclear
It means they will run out, damage the environment, but provide the most of the energy
What is Renewable, and what are some examples?
Examples: wind power, solar power, geothermal energy and bio-energy
It means they will never run out, then can be unreliable and do not provide as much energy
What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar?
Advantages: Renewable, Reliable and No Pollution
Disadvantages: Lots of energy needed, only works during the day and cannot increase power
What are the advantages and disadvantages of geothermal?
Advantages: Renewable, and reliable as the rocks are always hot
Disadvantages: May release greenhouse gases, and only found in specific places
What are the advantages and disadvantages of wind?
Advantages: Renewable, no pollution and minimal running costs
Disadvantages: Not as reliable, does not work if there is no wind and cannot increase supply
What are the advantages and disadvantages of biofuels?
Advantages: Renewable, reliable and carbon neutral
Disadvantages: High costs and clears natural forests
What are the advantages and disadvantages of fossil fuels?
Advantages: reliable and can produce more energy if needed
Disadvantages: Releases CO2. and can release sulphur dioxde
What are the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear?
Advantages: Reliable, and can produce more energy
Disadvantages: radioactive waste and incidents
