energy + nutrient density and BMR + energy expenditure Flashcards
what is BMR?
the basal metabolic rate is the rate at which the body uses energy whilst at rest in order to keep vital bodily functions going. Many different factors can affect BMR< including
- age
- genetics
- gender
- physical activity
- hormones
what is the difference between energy and nutrient density?
nutrient density (grams/kJ) is a measure of the amount of nutrients are food supplies per kilojoules, whereas energy density (kJ/grams) is the amount of kilojoules are food provides per gram.
what is the amdr? and what does it suggest about the consumption of macronutrients?
the AMDR is the acceptable macronutrient distribution ranges.
- Lipids are 20-35% of daily energy intake
- Carbohydrates are 45-65% of daily energy intake
- Protein - between 15-25% of daily energy intake
how do you calculate the percentage energy distribution?
energy provided by macronutrients/total energy in food multiplied by 100.
