Q

Explain the experiment that shows that candles need air to burn

A

Materials:
3 candles all the same height, matches, 2 glass bottles ( 1 bigger than the other)
Method:
Light the 3 candles, place the jars over 2 of the candles
Result:
The flames of the candles under the jars went out
Conclusion;”:
Candles need air to burn

Q

Explain the experiment done to show that candles need oxygen in the air to burn

A

Materials:
Trough of water with a candle fixed onto a plate at the bottom, glass jar to fit over the top

Method:
Light the candle, place glass jar over the candle. Observe

Result:
The candles flame went out. When the flame went out the water rose up inside the jar.

Conclusion:
The candle used the oxygen in the air to burn, and the water took the place of the oxygen.

Q

Explain how matches and firefighters are used to give output energy

A

Matches and firefighters are a source of heat. This heat lights the fuels, and air helps the fuel to keep burning. Fuel doesn’t burn without air

Q

How can we prevent fires

A
  • don’t play with fire
