Energy Flashcards
What are the eight energy stores?
kinetic gravitational potential elastic potential electrostatic magnetic chemical thermal nuclear
What are the four energy pathways?
heating
radiation
electrical
mechanical
What is the kinetic energy store?
Everything that is moving has energy in its kinetic energy store. The faster an object is, the more energy it has in its kinetic energy store.
What is the thermal energy store?
Every object has energy in its thermal power store. A hotter object will have more energy in the thermal energy store than a colder object.
What is the gravitational potential energy store?
Everything with a mass that is in a gravitational field will have energy in its gravitational potential store. The higher an object is, the more energy it has in its gravitational potential store.
What is the elastic potential energy store?
Anything that is being stretched or squashed has energy in its elastic potential store. The more a spring is being squashed, the more energy it has in its elastic potential energy store.
What is a chemical energy store?
Anything that releases chemicals to create energy, for example food, fuel and batteries, have energy in their chemical energy store. Foods like bread have more energy in its chemical energy store than foods like lettuce.
What is a nuclear energy store?
Atomic nuclei have energy in the nuclear energy store that is released in nuclear reactions.
What is the magnetic energy store?
Any magnetic object interacting with another magnet has energy in its magnetic energy store.
What is the electrostatic energy store?
Any object with an electric charge that is interacting with another electric charge has energy in its electrostatic energy store.
What is a electrical pathway?
The transfers in an electrical circuit due to charges moving.
What is a mechanic pathway?
A force causes an object to move, so mechanical work is done on the object.
What is a radiation pathway?
Energy given out from an object such as sound or light.
What is a heating pathway?
Energy that is transferred from a hotter object to a colder object.
What is energy measured in?
Joules
