Energy Flashcards
What are the eight energy stores?
Thermal, Kinetic, Gravitational potential, Elastic potential, Chemical, Magnetic, Electrostatic and Nuclear
What is a system?
A system is another word for a single object.
What is a closed system?
A closed system is a system where neither matter nor energy can enter or leave.
What is a net change?
The net change is the total energy of a closed system is always zero.
What is work done?
Work done is a synonym for energy transferred
What is the kinetic energy formula?
1/2 x mass x velocity squared
What is the formula for gravitational potential?
Mass x Height x Gravitational field strength
What is the formula Elastic Potenial?
1/2 x spring constant x extension squared
What is specific heat capacity?
It’s the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1 degree celsius
What’s the formula involving specific heat capacity?
Change in thermal energy = Mass x specific heat capacity x temperature change
What’s the conservation of energy principle?
Energy can be transferred usefully, stored or dissipated but never can be created or destroyed
What is power?
The rate of doing work. ( How much per second)
What is the power formula?
Power = Energy transferred or work done / time
