Energy Flashcards
What is ATP?
They are the currency of the cell, that provide small amounts of energy that are able to be used for protein transport and other activities
What is the structure of ATP
Adenine, ribose and three phosphates
Molecule begins with 2 phosphates. When third phosphate is added, the bond stores energy. This energy is then transported from place to place in the cell
What is the molecule with only 2 phosphates
Adenosine Di-phosphate or ADP
What are the two processes for making energy
1) cellular respiration: all organisms use gusts to produce energy
2) Photosynthesis: plants are unique in that they can produce those sugars as well
What are chloroplasts and what do they do?
Chloroplasts are pigments that trap the light that is not reflected and use this energy to make carbs
What are the two stages of photosynthesis
Light reactions (take in light) and dark reactions (make sugar)
Where do light reactions take place
In the thylakoids, which are sacs of chlorophyll arranged in stacks
What happens in light reactions?
- light excites electron
-
