Energy Flashcards
The types of energy
Kinetic Heat Light Gravitational potential Chemical Sound Electrical Elastic potential Nuclear
What does the energies tell us
Kinetic - anything moving
Heat - something that gives off heat
Light - something that gives us light to see
Gravitational potential - something that falls at a great height
Chemical - food / battery / fuel
Electrical - something that uses electricity ( wires )
Elastic potential- anything stretched
Nuclear - nuclear power plant
What can energy not be?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed - only transferred
What is energy
Energy is conserved ( kept the same )
Example 1
Torch:
Chemical - light
Example 2
Fan:
Electrical - sound
Kinetic
Example 3
Clock :
Chemical-kinetic
Sound
Energy transfer example 1
An object projects upwards or up a slope
Kinetic energy - Gravitational potential
Energy transfer example 2
A moving object hitting an obstacle
Kinetic - kinetic
Energy transfer examples 3
An object being accelerated by a constant force
Kinetic energy increases
Energy transfer examples 4
A vehicle slowing down
Kinetic decreases
Energy transfer examples 5
Bringing water to a boil in an electrical kettle
Electrical - heat
