Compare the terms ‘heat’ and ‘temperature’
Heat: Energy that moves from one place to another place that is at a lower temperature.
Temperature: A measure of how hot or cold a substance is. It is measured in degrees Celsius.
Outline the essential elements of an electric circuit

Conductors: transfer of heat through collisions between particles
Insulators: material that does not allow heat to move through it
Define ‘energy’
The ability to make something happen, such as moving something, making a light glow or making a noise.

Conduction: transfer of heat through collisions between particles eg a hotplate
Convection: transfer of heat through the flow of particles eg heater or Earths mantel
Radiation: a method of heat transfer that does not require particles to transfer heat from one place to another; the energy produced by the nucleus of an atom eg Infra-red
Identify that most energy conversions are inefficient and lead to the production of heat
An example is electrical energy hen transformed into light produces a lot of waste heat.
A car engine also produces a lot of waste heat.
