Energy Flashcards
What are the two major forms of energy?
The two major forms of energy are Kinetic energy and potential energy.
What is potential energy?
Elastic potential energy is when an object has stored energy that can be released to create movement
What is involved in nuclear energy?
Nuclear energy involves the splitting and joining of atoms.
What is light energy?
Light energy is energy. It comes from sources such as light globes, the sun, and fires.
What is a power source?
A battery or a power point in the wall (wall socket). It is the source of electrical potential energy.
What is heat energy
Heat energy ( also known as thermal energy) is made from friction such as rubbing your hands together. It is can also be generated from chemical reactions
What is non-renewable energy?
Non-renewable energy uses up resources that we cannot recreate. Some examples of this are gas to run our car and coal burned in power plants. Once they are used, they are gone forever.
What is renewable energy?
A renewable energy source is one that can be replenished. Examples of this include hydropower from turbines in a dam, wind power from windmills, and solar power from the sun.
Fill in the gap
Headphones convert electrical energy into ______ energy.
Sound
Fill in the gap
Solar panels convert _____ energy into electrical energy
Light
Fill in the gap
A phone charger converts electrical energy into a different _________ energy
Electrical
What is a switch and what does it do?
A switch opens and closes the circuit. It breaks the conductive path when switched OFF and makes an electric circuit when switched ON.
Which of the following statements is the most accurate?
- Like charges will attract each other.
- Unlike charges repel.
- Charged objects will attract uncharged objects.
- Opposite charges will repel.
Charged objects will attract uncharged objects.
What type of energy does a trampoline use?
Potential kinetic energy.
What is energy efficiency?
Energy efficiency is a measure of how much energy is transformed into the desired energy type.
