Energy Flashcards
Which living things are producers?
Plants and single-celled organisms
Why cells need energy
Living things no matter active or not need energy to move material out and into the cell, to make different chemicals, to get rid of wastes.
What can producers do?
Cn make their own food
How food give living things energy?
They contain chemical energy. Food gives living things the energy and daw materials needed to carry out life processes. When cells break down food, the energy of the chemical bonds in food is released. This energy can be stored or used by the cell. The atoms and molecules and build blocks for the cell
Hectare consumers?
Eat producers or other consumers.
What are decomposers?
They break down dead organisms or wastes. Fungi and many bacteria
What is cellular respiration?
The process if breaking down food to produce ATP
Where does the cellular respiration take place?
Mitochondria
Cytoplasm and cell membranes of prokaryotic
What are the materials used in cellular respiration?
Glucose and oxygen
What happens in the eukaryotic cells?
In cytoplasm, glucose breaks into two3 carbon molecules. It releases small amount of energy
What happens in the mitochondria
Oxygen enters the cell and travels to the mitochondria and the 3-carbon molecules are already broken down, energy is captured and stored in ATP
What are the raw materials of photosynthesis
Water
Carbon dioxide
What are the products of photosynthesis
Oxygen
Sugar
