Energy Flashcards
Where would the dolls get the energy to move?
I) From energy stored in your body (used to store energy in the wound up spring)
II) from energy stored in a battery
Think of two ways to give energy to a doll that walks
I) clockwork or wind up
II) electric or battery operated
Name three examples of stored (potential) energy
Chemical energy, strain energy and gravitational energy
Give another name for movement energy
Kinetic energy
The battery in a torch stores 100 joules of energy and 30 joules are given out as energy lighting up the room. How much energy is wasted heating up the room?
70 joules
What are the energy transfers when a stone is fired from a catapult?
Energy stored in your body is transferred to
- energy in the elastic
- and then movement energy of the stone
What does kJ stand for?
Kilojoule
How many joules are there in 1 kilo joule?
1,000 joules
What is the ‘fuel’ our bodies run on?
The food we eat
Which of these foods has the most energy per portion?
Carrots, sausages, banana’s, eggs
Sausages
What things affect the amount of energy a person needs?
Their size, how active they are and how fast they’re growing
What happens if you take in more energy than you use up?
The energy is stored as fat (chemical energy)
Name three fuels that can be used to heat homes
Coal, gas, oil, paraffin, wood.
What is the difference between a renewable and non renewable energy resource?
Once non renewable resources have been used up they cannot be replaced
Explain why fossil fuels are non renewable
Because they took millions of years to form, so when they are used up they are gone forever
