Energy Flashcards
What type of reaction occurs when a bond is broken?
Endothermic reaction.
What type of reaction occurs when a bond is Formed?
Exothermic reaction.
List 3 Examples of Exothermic reactions?
Combustion , neutralisation, reaction between water and calcium oxide(Burning candle, Body warmer)
List 3 Examples of endothermic reactions?
Ice packs, Photosynthesis, Evaporating liquid
What is a simple cell?
A source of electrical energy, consists of two electrodes made from metals of different reactivity.
What is a fuel cell?
Special type of electrical cell.
What type of reaction do fuel cells give off?
Exothermic reaction.
What enters a fuel cell?
Hydrogen and oxygen
(Electrodes are also needed in fuel cells)
what exits a fuel cell?
Water (h2O)
What is an electrolyte?
an Ionic compound that is molten or dissolved in water that conducts electricity and is decomposed by it.
What is the difference between a rechargeable and non rechargeable battery?
Rechargeable- The chemical reaction can be reversed.
Non rechargeable- The chemical reaction stops once all reactants have been used up.
