Q

What is Hooke’s law and the formula?

A

Hooke’s law is a principle stating that the force needed to compress or stretch a spring by some distance is proportional to that distance. F = -kx where k is the spring constant (characteristic), the - is the direction of the force and x is the extension of the spring in m.

Q

What is kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy?

A

kinetic energy is the energy of motion, gravitational potential energy is potential energy in an object when it is raised from the ground.

Q

Explain conservation of energy.

A

Energy is never created or destroyed, so the initial kinetic/potential energy = final kinetic/gravitational energy. We can use this to find either side.

Q

What is work and its formula/unit?

A

Work is done when a force moves something over a distance, the formula is W = Fd and it is measured in joules.
