Energetics Flashcards
What is enthalpy change?
the heat energy transferred at constant pressure
standard enthalpy change of combustion
the enthalpy change when 1 mole of a substance is completely burnt in excess oxygen with all substances in their standard states and under standard conditions ( 298k and 100kpa)
standard enthalpy change of formation
the enthalpy change when 1 mole of a compound is formed from its
constituent elements with all elements in their standard states and under standard conditions
enthalpy change of atomization
the enthalpy change that is accompanied by the formation of 1 mole of gaseous atoms where all reactants are under standard conditions and in their standard states
Mean bond enthalpy
the enthalpy change required to break a covalent bond into gaseous atoms averaged over different molecules.
Enthalpy of formation equation
the sum of the products- the sum of reactants
enthalpy of combustion equation
the sum of reactants- the sum of products
