Processor qc (sensitometry)
Objective
To determine if processor is working optimally
Processor qc (sensitometry)
Suggested performance criteria
0.15 optical density of the mid-density step
0.15 optical density of the density difference
+0.3 optical density of the base + fog level
Processor qc sensitometry
Frequency
Daily prior to processing patient films
Processor qc sensitometry
Required equipment
Sensitometer
Dedicated box of control film
Densitometer
Processor qc sensitometry
Steps
- Expose the control film with sensitometer
- Develop film
- Determine the average optical density of the mid-density step and record on form b1 in appendix b
- Determine the average optical density difference and record
- Measure the background optical density (base+fog) and record
- Verify that the measured values are within the suggested performance criteria
Processor qc sensitometry
Corrective actions
Test should be repeated if the values are outside the peformance criteria. IF after repeating the result are still out of limits look for processing problems and contact thr processor service supplier
If asymmetric film is being used a dual sided sensitometer is necessary
For detailed instruction chart and example please see appendix b.
Is used to measure the characteristic curve of radiographic films exposed with fluorescent intensifiying screens.
X-ray sensitometer
Is a representation of response of a screen film radiograph to light. The characteristic curve represents the change in optical density (OD) of the screen film in response to changing exposure (incident x-rays on the screen film). It is used to describe the contrast characteristic of a photographic film for a particular range of exposure
H and D curve ( hurter and driffield curve)
A device used to measure sensitivity of photographic materials to light or radiation. Typically consist of a controlled light source that exposes a test film or sensor to varying levels of light. By measuring the resulting optical densities on the film, one can determine the sensitivity of the material to light
Sensitometer
A device used to measure optical density it quantifies how much light is absorbed or transmitted by a material. In the context of imaging, a __ is often used to measure the density of developed photographic film or other materials used in imaging procedures
