Q

How is a reaction exothermic?

A

A reaction is exothermic if more energy is released than supplied.

More energy is released when the products where formed than the energy was used to break bonds in the reactants. Hence a net release of energy.

Substance feels hot.

Q

How is a reaction endothermic?

A

A reaction is endothermic is more energy is supplied then released.

More energy is taken in to breaking the bonds in the reactants then released by the bonds being formed in the products.

Heat is taken in, temperature of substance feels cold.
