What is an arthroscopy?
The examination of a joint, used to detect cysts, arthritis or ligament injuries
What is an endoscopy?
Endoscopy is a general term used to indicate the visual examination of a body cavity or hollow organ by the use of an endoscope
All endoscopies require a Consent Form
Bronchoscopy
Examination of the larynx, trachea and bronchi. Used to detect tumors, inflammation or strictures
Colonoscopy
Examination of the large intestine, used to detect tumours, polyps and ulcers
Cystoscopy (and pyelogram)
Examination of urethra, bladder and prostrate in males.
If pyelogram is done at same time, a contrast medium is introduced through the urethra for x-ray pics to be taken of the urethra, bladder and ureters.
Used to detect bladder capacity, renal stones, tumours and dilation of a narrowed urethra/ureters.
Esophagoscopy
examination of the esophagus, used to detect the motor function of the esophagus
Gastroscopy
Examination of E, S & D.
Used to detect tumours, ulcers, polyps, hiatus hernias or to locate site of bleeding
Laparoscopy
Examination of pelvic and abdominal organs
Used to detect tumours, cysts, adhesions, fibroids, infection or endometriosis
Sigmoidoscopy
Examination of the rectum and sigmoid
Used to detect tumours, polyps and ulcers
