Q

What is Holter monitoring?

A

A test ordered by a physician when the pt is discharged. It is a continuous ECG (electrocardiogram) tracing recorded on a tape for a specific amount of time. (12-24 hrs)

Q

What are the NUC’s responsibility for processing Holter monitor orders?

A
  1. Contact the cardiology dept. stating you have a pt that needs to be set up with a Holter Monitor
  2. Give them: pts name, home phone # and the name of the physician who ordered the test
  3. Once they have given you a date & time for appt., write the info on a Holter monitor pamphlet and give this to a RN
