endogenous and exogenous Flashcards
1
Q
define endogenous zeitegebers
A
- internal body clock
- suprachiasamtic nucleus linked to pineal gland
- sns linked to other areas of the brain responsible for sleep
- sns recieves info about light levels
- low level of light = melatonin due to sns signal = induces sleep
2
Q
what is an exogenous zeitgeber
A
- environmental events
- social cues such as meal time and actiivties
- light = resets body clock
3
Q
not sperate
A
- limited research as they are seen as seperate
- their affects should be combined to be more holistic
4
Q
exogenous - confounding variable
A
- artifical light is always present
- not controlled = reduces reliability
5
Q
siffres study
A
- entered a cave and had no natural light
- came out mid september and thought it was mid august
- shows that light helps maintain 24 hour circadian rhyhtms
