endocrine system - flight or fight Flashcards
1
Q
adrenaline triggers physiological changes such as:
A
- increased heart rate
- increased breathing rate
- dilation of the pupils
- decreased production of saliva
- inhibited digestion
2
Q
what 2 systems work together in the fight or flight response?
A
- endocrine system and the autonomic nervous system (ANS)
3
Q
the fight or flight response:
A
- when a stressor is perceived = HYPOTHALAMUS triggers activity in the SYMPATHETIC BRANCH of the ANS
- the ANS changes from a parasympathetic state to the sympathetic state
- adrenaline is released from the adrenal medulla into the bloodstream
- once the threat has passed the parasympathetic state returns to its resting state = acts as a brake and reduces the activities of the body that were increased by the actions of the sympathetic branch
4
Q
what is the normal resting state?
A
parasympathtic
