Indication for surgical treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism

PTH mechanism of action
Concurrently, PTH induces renal phosphorus excretion.

Tertiary hyperparathyroidism
Tertiary hyperparathyroidism is the result of the prolonged PTH stimulation needed to maintain eucalcemia. This prolonged stimulation results in increased calcium levels and severe hyperparathyroid hyperplasia with elevated PTH levels that are no longer responsive to the plasma calcium concentration.
