Hormonal system
Work alongside the nervous system in order to control vital functions

It manufactures and secretes chiemical messages via blood vassals
What are glands?
They are a group of cells that are psecialised to produce and secrete hormones.
What are hormones?
chemical massagers that only affect target organs.
They’re produced in large quantities, have powerful effects but disappear quickly.
Pineal gland
Release melatonin
Responsible for important biological rhythms, including the sleep-wake cycle.
Thyroid gland
Releases thyroxine
Responsible for regulating metabolism.
Hypothalamus
Stimulate and controls the release of hormones from the pituitary gland.
Pituitary gland
Sometimes known as the master gland because the hormones released by this gland control and stimulate the release of hormones from other glands.
Ovaries
Releases estrogen
Controls the regulation of the female reproductive system, including the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.
Testes
Release testosterone.
Responsible for the development of male sex characteristics during puberty while also promoting muscle growth.
Adrenal medulla
fight and flight response
Adrenal cortex
Releases cortisol
Stimulates the release of glucose to provide the body with energy, while suppressing the immune system
