A
Organs in body that make hormones
3

- thryoid gland releases thyroxine whichregulates metabolism and heart rate
- testes release testosterone which develops male characteristics in puberty.
- ovaries release oestrogen which regulates female reproductive system and menstrual cycle
4
Q
what are hormones?
A
Chemical substances in bloodstream that target specific organs

Q
what is the pituitary gland?

The ‘master gland’ in the brain controls the release of all other hormones in the body.
6
Q
what is the fight or flight response?
A
The body becomes physiologically aroused in response to stress, to fight an aggressor or flee.
7
Q
what are the 5 steps of fight or flight response?
A
- hypothalamus triggers activity in the ANS
- ANS changes from resting parasympathetic state to aroused sympathetic state.
- Adrenaline released from adrenal medulla
- Adrenaline causes physiological changes in target organs eg. higher heart rate and breathing rate
- once threat passes, parasympathetic state returns
