Controls the release of hormones from the other glands
What hormone does the pituitary gland release?
ACTH
What does the hypothalamus do?
Links the nervous system to the internet endocrine system. Maintains homeostasis of bodily systems.
What hormone does the hypothalamus release?
CRH
What does the pineal gland do?
Modulates sleep pattern. Keeps body to a day/night circadian rhythm
What hormone does the pineal gland release?
Melatonin
What does the thyroid gland do?
Modulates metabolism
What hormone does the thyroid gland release?
Thyroxine
What does the thymus gland do?
Stimulates the development of T cells that work in the immune system helping with disease resistance
What hormone does the thymus gland release?
Thymosin
What does the pancreas do?
Regulates blood sugar levels, problems with this system lead to diabetes
What hormone does the pancreas release?
Insulin and glucagon
What do the adrenal glands do?
Regulates biological effects of the fight or flight response e.g. increased heart rate, blood supply to muscles and sweating.

Adrenaline and cortisol
