Suspected Adrenal Crisis- Indications
A patient with primary adrenal failure who is experiencing clinical signs of an adrenal crisis
Hydrocortisone Conditions
Paramedics are presented with a vial or hydrocortisone for the identified patient and one of the following:
- Age related HYPOGLYCEMIA
- GI symptoms (abdo pain, vomiting, diarrhea)
- Syncope
- Temp ≥38 or suspected/history of fever
- Altered LOA
- Age-related TACHYCARDIA
- Age-related HYPOTENSION
Hydrocortisone Contraindications
Allergy or sensitivity to hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone Treatment
Route: IM/IV
Dose: 2mg/kg
Max dose: 100mg
Max # of doses: 1
What is the recommended time that dextrose should be administered over?
3 minutes, discontinue if your patient attains a level of consciousness where they can consume simple carbohydrates
