Hyperthyroidism

A

Antithyroid Agents:

  • Propylthiouracil (PTU)
  • Methimazole (Tapazole)
  • Lithium

Iodine Preparations:

  • Strong Iodine (Lugol’s solution)
  • Saturated solution of potassium iodide (SSKI)
  • Potassium Iodide tabs, solution, or syrup

Hyperaldosteronism

A

Spironolactone (Aldactone): potassium sparing diuretic. Watch for hyperkalemia. Avoid K+ supplements. Teach patient signs of hyponatremia such as dry mouth or lethargy.
