A controlling chemical created by an organism and sent through tissue fluids like blood or sap to activate particular cells or tissues.
Hormones
A chain of two or more AMINO ACIDS that are joined together by peptide bonds between their carboxyl and amino groups.
Peptide
Any of a group of organic compounds, whether they be natural or artificial, that have a molecular structure made up of 17 carbon atoms grouped in four rings.
Steroid
A hormone that the pituitary gland secretes into the blood after the brain produces it.
Oxytocin
The cortex-enclosed core portion of the adrenal gland.
Adrenal Medulla
The adrenal gland’s external layer. It creates hormones to assist essential body processes and organ functioning.
Adrenal Cortex
Any of more than 40 chemical substances that are found in the cortex of the adrenal glands and are members of the steroid family.
Corticoid
Prescription drugs for underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism)

A condition brought on by low blood sugar or glucose levels.

A group of drugs that are used to treat type 2 diabetes
Sulphonylureas
Refers to a class of oral diabetic drugs that act by lowering the amount of sugar absorbed by the intestines, increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin, and blocking the creation of glucose in the liver.
Biguanides
Oral anti-diabetic medications, commonly referred to as “glitazones,” are used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise to lower blood sugar levels in persons with type 2 diabetes.
Thiazolidinediones
Operate by preventing the activity of DPP-4, an enzyme that eliminates the incretin hormone.
Gliptins
A hormone that your pancreas produces to aid in controlling your blood sugar (glucose) levels.
