What are the treatments for for type 1 diabetes

A

Hypoglycaemia- oral glucose, complex carbs, <2yrs, 2ml/kg max 50ml, 10 min interval, max # 2 times, equal to or >2yrs, 2ml/kg max of 250ml/kg, 10 min interval, max #2 times. Glucagon <25kg, 0.5mg, 20 mins, 2 times. >25 1mg

What is type 2 diabetes

A

-Pancreas still produces insulin but body cells don’t respond properly and become insulin resistant.
- fat tissue produces a substance that impairs insulin resistant.

What is DKA?

A

When BGL is to high for long periods of time, the body breaks down fats due to incificent insulin to use as glucose for energy. This produces ketones, which makes body acidic.

A

Extremely high BGL causes severe dehydration which leads to electrolyte and water imbalance, making blood thicker, body does not produce ketones.
