Thyroxine

A

Dr: Thyroid hormone

I:

  • Hypothyroidism
  • Block regimen replacement in hyperthyroidism
  • Suppressive regimen in thyroid cancer and euthyroid goitre

D:
- 50mcg - 200mcg once daily

M:

  • Thyroid levels (TSH, T4)
  • Storage conditions
  • Cardiovascular risk factors (risk of arrhythmias)
  • BGL (Require to adjust insulin)
  • Signs of hyperthyroidism
  • BMD
  • Adherence

C:

  • Take it oes
  • Avoid taking it with dairy, antacid, mineral supplements. Seperate by at least 4 hours.
  • Store it in the fridge, single blister strip can be taken out to room temperature for 14 days.
  • If you develop any signs of hyperthyroidism such as anxiety, palpitation, insomnia, excitability, weight loss, flushing, sweating tell your doctor.

PP:

  • Eltroxin and Eutroxsig are not interchangable.
  • Pregnancy is okay, may require higher doses?
  • Decrease BMD with thyroid hormones
  • May require to change diabetic drug doses
  • Increase risk of arrythmias
