Endocrine Flashcards
Celiac disease can cause osteomalacia how
malabsorption of vitamin D in the small intestines from intraepithelial lymphocytosis causes hypocalcemia (which can be the lower limit of normal) and secondary osteomalacia. (bone softening due to prolonged vitamin D deficiency)
patients can also have secondary hyperparathyroidism and hypophosphatemia
Hereditary hypophosphatemic rickets
X linked dominant inability of the renal tubule to reabsorb phosphate
Vitamin D deficiency rickets
deficiency in 1a- hydroxylase, cant convert 25 hydroxy-vitamin D to 1,25-dihydoxy-vitamin D
Osteodystrophy (Albright)
psuedohypoparathyroidism where the kidneys cannot respond to parthyroid hormone and causes hypocalcemia
short stature, development delay, brachydactyyly, round facies and developmental delay
