What is the treatment for ketones in the urine of a child with diabetes who has been ill?
-ABCs
- Fluid replacement: initial bolus, then maintenance fluids
- Insulin therapy: continuous regular insulin until pH reaches 7.35, D5 solution once glucose < 300 mg/dL, subQ insulin once glucose < 250 mg/dL
-Goal: glucose decreases < 100 mg/dL/hr
