End of topic test 1 year 10 Flashcards
what can effect the rate of photosynthesis and is also a limiting factor
Light Intensity, Temperature, Carbon Dioxide Concentration
describe how a graph would look if temperature was on the x axis and Rate of photosynthesis was on the y axis also
as the temperature rises so does the Rate of photosynthesis until the temperature reaches its optimum rate and is in its best condition until the temperature too high and the rate of photosynthesis decreases rapidly
describe a graph when temperature is a limiting factor of the rate of photosynthesis
Temperature is a limiting factor of the rate of photosynthesis, so the rate increases along with the temperature, the kinetic energy in the enzymes increase with the temperature, and when it is at its optimum rate the enzyme forms an enzyme substrate complex which is working at its optimum rate. When the temperature increases further the enzymes denature so the substrate no longer fits and the ROP drops
what is the xylem tissue like
Made of dead xylem cells, no cell walls at the end of the cells (Form long tubes) This allows water and mineral ions to flow in one direction
what is the phloem tissue like
Made of living cells, cell walls have small holes in the end called sieve plates, this allows dissolved sugars to pass through in both directions
what is the vascular bundle, phloem and xylem look like
the vascular bundle contains the xylem and phloem then the xylem is in the middle and the phloem surrounds it
what is translocation
The movement of dissolved sugars from the leaves to the rest of the plants
what is transpiration
the loss of water from the leaves. The water that is lost must be absorbed by the roots.
what is a potometer used for
used to show the water uptake of a plant under different conditions
what is the stomata used for and what it looks like
allow gases to move into and out of leaf are on the edge of the leaf and there is a gap in between them
what are the chloroplasts for
photosynthesis
what do guard cells do
control the opening and closing of stomata
what does palisade mesophyll contain
a lot of chloroplasts
what does the epidermis do
covers and protects the surface
what does the xylem do
transports water and nutrients
