What did a U-Boat do in 1915 that affected the rest of the war?
Sunk the British passenger ship, The Lusitania, which contained some rich and powerful American people
What was the U-Boat plan?
To starve Britain into submission by cutting off the shipment of supplies
What is the Convoy system?
A system to protect Allied supply ships from German U-Boats. Shops were escorted by armed destroyers.
Why did the US enter the war?
1) Sinking of the Lusitania
2) February 1917, Germany decided to implement unrestricted submarine warfare, making American ships targets
3) Early 1917’s, Germany was encouraging Mexico to attack the US (Zimmerman Telegram)
Russia: March 1917
Tsar Nicolas and his autocracy was overthrown. The Provisional Government took over, but was overthrown. Communists (Bolsheviks) led by Vladimir Lenin took over- opened peace negotiations.
