What is end-of-life care?
-given in last year of life
-providing treatment/advice/support
-planning for patient’s death/ helping them to die with dignity
What is palliative care?
symptomatic management of an incurable disease
-some treatments can be aimed at pro-longing life with the disease

liverpool pathway of care
What consideration needs to be taken on when deciding to resuscitate or not?
if they have a DO NOT RESUSCITATE form
(discussing this could cause distress )
What is the rule of discussing with patients about DNR forms?
can discuss
but patients cannot demand it if doctor does not think so
Should people with terminal illnesses have a DNAR?
(Pro DNAR)
A: requires medical knowledge and should be doctor’s decision
B/N: would otherwise just be prolonging their suffering
would just be better to let them pass away from natural causes
J: frees up resources for other patients who do not need DNAR
C(consent/capacity): if patient is confused, not have capacity to consent to DNAR, so doctor can put it in place
What does DNAR stand for?
do not attempt resuscitation
Should people with terminal illnesses have a DNAR?
(Against DNAR)
A: patient should ultimately decide (DNAR does not respect their autonomy)
B/N: not making an attempt, not trying to save the life
C/C:patients should be involved when they have capacity
