Hip flexion
Usually soft, may be firm because of tension in the posterior joint capsule and/or glut max
Hip extension
Firm because of tension in the anterior joint capsule, iliofemoral ligament, and hip flexor muscles
Hip abduction
Firm because of tension in the medial joint capsule, pubofemoral ligament, ischiofemoral ligament, and inferior band of iliofemoral ligament. Also passive tension in the adductors
Hip adduction
Firm because of tension in the lateral joint capsule and superior band of iliofemoral ligament. Also tension in glut med/min and TFL
Hip medial/internal rotation
Firm because of tension in posterior joint capsule and ischiofemoral ligament. Also tension in the external rotators
Hip lateral/external rotation
Firm because of tension in the anterior joint capsule, iliofemoral ligament, and pubofemoral ligament. Also tension in the anterior portion of glut med/min, add mag, add long, pectineus, and piriformis
