Enclosed Space Entry Flashcards
What do we test for in an enclosed space atmosphere?
Oxygen level
Hydrogen sulfide
Carbon monoxide
Hydrocarbons
Safe oxygen levels for enclosed space entry
20.8% is normal
20% is minimum
>20% = too high. Investigate and bring back to 20.8%
Maximum level of other gasses besides oxygen for enclosed space entry
<1% of LEL
Dangers of an enclosed space
Low oxygen level High oxygen level Hydrogen sulfide Carbon monoxide Hydrocarbons Flooding Trips/falls Low clearance Getting lost
How often are enclosed space drills required?
Every 2 months minimum
Definition of an enclosed space
Limited openings for entry and exit
Has inadequate ventilation
Is not designed for continuous worker occupation
Definition of a dangerous enclosed space
Any enclosed or confined space in which it is foreseeable that the atmosphere may at some point contain toxic or flammable gasses or vapors or be deficient in oxygen to the extent that it may endanger the life or health of any person entering the space.
