EN Route flight planning Flashcards
FAR 121.191 Requires what?
we dispatch our aircraft on a route, weight, and temp, that will comply with min terrain clearance when an engine fails
What does 121.191 also require?
we must have a plan in place that allows a diversion without alternate airport enroute
What is a single engine service ceiling?
the altitude at which the aircraft can no longer climb at least 50fpm after an engine failure
Do en route alternate must meed derived alternate weather minimums?
yes!
What is Method 1?
assumes the aircraft instantly is at the SE service ceiling
less restrictive
most effective with little or no terrain to clear
provides 6000ft clearance
What is Method 2?
Assumes the aircraft slowly dirfts down to SE service ceiling
used in high terrain areas
more restictive
5000ft clearance
What is Flight monitoring?
the dispatcher shall provide the PIC all available current reports or information
What is cost indexing?
plans speed and altitude to minimize total cost of flight
What are variable cost?
Crew salary
fuel
When fuel costs are low.
fly faster to reduce block time and minimize crew costs
When fuel costs are high.
fly slower to reduce fuel costs
What are the domestic fuel requirements?
Fuel to fly to destination, fly and land at most distant alternate, fly for 45min at normal cruise speeds (FL250 fuel burn, TOC)
What are some considerations when calculating fuel?
Per 121.647
wind and weather
anticipated traffic delays
one instrument approach and possible missed approach
any other conditions that may delay landing
What does the rate of fuel burn depend on?
ambient temp
aircraft speed
aircraft altitude
