EMT Psychomotor Exam Flashcards
Long Board Immobilization
BSI, Scene Safe, Ask for inline manual stabilization of c-spine, CMS, cervical collar, roll patient onto board, strap in torso, strap abdomen, strap legs, secure head, pad voids, secure arms by folding over chest and tying, CMS
BVM of Apneic Patient
BSi, Scene Safe, AVPU, check breathing, check pulse (5 sec), call for additional EMS assistance, head tilt chin lift, measure suction, insert without suction, suction 10-15seconds in sweeping motion, insert OPA, BVM at rate of 12/min (1 every 6 seconds), have partner connect BVM to oxygen, check pulse, continue BVM, look for adequate chest rise
Oxygen Admin by Non-Rebreather Mask
BSI, Scene safe, gather equipment, crack valve on tank, check regular for O-ring, apply regulator, open the tank, check tank pressure, connect NRB, turn regulator to 15L/min, check for leaks, let bag fill halfway, apply mask to patient’s face
Disassembly (bonus): Remove mask, close regulator, close tank, open regulator, remove regulator, put tank away.
Cardiac Arrest Management
BSI, Scene safe, ask if anyone saw what happened, AVPU, check breathing, check pulse, begin compressions, call for additional EMS, call for AED, 30 compressions to 2 breaths with pocket mask, after 5 cycles, check for pulse quickly, communicate exchange when AED arrives, turn AED on, follow prompts to apply pads, then plug in pads, clear patient when analyzing, clear again when shocking, direct partner to resume compressions
Bleeding/Shock Management
BSI, Scene safe, apply direct pressure, apply tourniquet and note the time, lay patient supine, cover with blanket, oxygen by NRB at 15L/min, immediate transport
Long Bone Immobilization
BSI, scene safe, direct partner to manually stabilize injury, CMS, measure splint, immobilize joint above and below injury, keep hand/foot in position of function, secure whole extremity, CMS
Joint Immobilization
BSI, scene safe, direct partner to manually stabilize injury, CMS, measure splint, immobilize long bone above and below injury, secure whole extremity, CMS
Medical Patient (Whole)
BSI, Scene Safe, # patients, ALS backup, NOI, c-spine consideration, general impression, AVPU, chief complaint, airway, breathing, circulation, transport decision (usually high priority, move to ambulance), OPQRST, SAMPLE, Secondary, Baseline vitals, field impression, radio for treatment clearance, treat, radio hospital, reassess every 5 if unstable, 15 if stable
Airway Steps
Patent airway, insert adjunct if not
Breathing Steps
