Aspirin Dose and Indications/Contraindications
Adult: 324mg Baby: 81mg (make adult chew 4)
Indications: Chest pain presenting as possible MI
Contras: Allergy to aspirin, unable to swallow, hx of asthma, ulcers, GI bleeding, blood disorder
Nitroglycerin Dose and Indications/Contraindications
Adult: spray or sublingual tablet, up to 3, one at a time
Indications: Chest pain, hx of cardiac issues, prescribed nitro.
Contras: Systolic below 90-100, sexually-enhancing drugs, head injury, pediatric, patient has already taken some
Albuterol Dose and Indications/Contraindications
Adult/Child: 1 “hit”
Indications: Respiratory emergency (wheezing sounds), prescribed inhaler
Contras: AMS (not alert), patient has already taken prescribed dose, patient is not prescribed inhaler
Activated Charcoal Dose and Indications/Contraindications
Adult: 25-50g Child: 12.5-25g (1g/kg)
Indications: Ingested poison
Contraindications: AMS, inability to swallow, ingested acid or alkali
Oral Glucose Dose and Indications/Contraindications
Adult: 1-2 tubes (25g each)
Indications: Low blood sugar, AMS, hx of diabetes
Contras: Unable to swallow, unconscious, known diabetic who hasn’t taken insulin in days
Epinephrine Dose and Indications/Contraindications
Adult: 0.3mg Child: 0.15mg (no limit on # doses)
Indications: Severe allergic reaction, medical direction authorizes
Contras: None if used in life-threatening situation.
Oxygen Dose and Indications/Contraindications
NRB: 15L/min NC: 6L/min
Indications: Any distress
Contras: Very rare, patient won’t accept NRB
